AnythingLLM's web search is on by default. Citenook has no web search; answers come only from your files.
Online AI
Both send requests to the AI service you pick with your own key. Citenook can hide names, emails, phone and ID numbers first.
Open source
AnythingLLM's code is public, so anyone can check what it does. Citenook is closed source; its privacy policy lists every connection it makes.

Do both work offline?
Yes. AnythingLLM's desktop app can run fully offline with local models. Citenook works offline with Apple Intelligence or a model you downloaded in Settings.
Can Citenook use my Ollama or LM Studio models?
Yes, on the Pro and Pro+ plans. Open Ollama or LM Studio, and Citenook finds its models on its own.
Does Citenook run on Windows?
No. Citenook is Mac only, for Macs with Apple silicon on macOS 15 or later. AnythingLLM runs on Windows, Linux and Mac.
