Why people look for an alternative
Nothing to upload
Citenook reads your files where they are, on your Mac. Gemini Notebook works on copies uploaded to Google.
Works offline
With Apple Intelligence or a model on your Mac, Citenook answers with Wi-Fi off. Gemini Notebook needs the internet.
Room for big libraries
Gemini Notebook's free plan allows 50 sources per notebook. Citenook adds whole folders, and Pro has no limit on files.
Your choice of AI
Use models on your Mac, Ollama, LM Studio, or your own OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or OpenRouter key.
What stays the same
Like Gemini Notebook, Citenook answers only from your sources and cites where each fact came from. It goes one step further: the source opens with the exact sentence highlighted.
